Music at Surrey Hills

We are aiming high with our music provision, to embed and exceed the national curriculum and to support our pupils to realise their musical potential. We are building up a high-quality music offer consisting of three distinct, but interlinked areas of provision.

  • Curriculum music- 1 hour per week of music teaching in their class
  • Instrumental &vocal lessons, and ensemble membership.
  • Musical events and opportunities, such as singing in assembly, concerts and shows, and trips to professional concerts.

It has been proven that music plays a key role in brain development. This is because it helps with the nurturing of language, motor skills, emotional intelligence and collaboration skills. We want all children to get these opportunities. We have a wide range of musical instruments for the children’s own improvisation, including a set of steel pans that are available within our Hub school network.

In addition to our curriculum offer, we have a Choir Master and Piano teacher who provides weekly whole school singing assemblies. The school Choir meet three times a week for practice sessions. They take part in two wonderful local festivals, the Mole Valley Festival and the Leith Hill Music Festival, as well as singing at the local Reading Rooms and Churches during the festive period. Piano tuition sessions are available to book and Graded examinations are arranged. Please contact the school office to book your child into Piano sessions on our Contact us page.

In addition to this, Surrey Arts runs music lessons in school, where children can choose from a wide variety of instruments. To book lessons, please contact Surrey Arts direct on 01483 519303, alternatively further information can be found on their website www.surreycc.gov.uk/music.
