Christian Values

As Church of England schools, Christian values underpin our ethos. We actively promote the development of Christian values and citizenship skills, equipping pupils for life in the wider world.

Our daily collective worship reinforces the Christian value for the half term; children are given the opportunity to think about the Christian meaning of the value and how it can be demonstrated in their lives. At some time during the collective worship, children are given the time for self-reflection giving them time to absorb and respond to the main ideas about the value of the month, at their own level. There is no compulsion to worship or act against their own beliefs.

To Support our Christian Ethos and Values:

  • Pupils engage each day in a meaningful act of collective worship.
  • Religious Education follows guidance from Guildford Diocese.
  • We observe major Christian festivals.
  • We develop an active relationship with our parish churches.
  • We make appropriate use of Christian symbols inside / outside the school.

Values 2018/19

Autumn 1 – Friendship

Christians call God their friend because of the relationship made possible through Jesus. To understand the value of relationships over material possessions and how forgiveness, love, trust, conciliation and support are all needed within this.

Autumn 2 – Hope

Christians see their hope in God’s promise “that love and goodness have, and will ultimately, overcome all evil”. This hope is manifested in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.

Spring 1 – Truthfulness

Christians believe that the way God wants us to live our lives is in the Bible through the teachings of Jesus. To be open to the truth, to admit when we are wrong and be prepared to live our lives in different way.
